Midnight Sun

Lead Artist and Creative Director

My concept titled Midnight Sun (Alto Cumulus Array), won the Philips-Signify design invitational. The form was assembled parametrically and modeled to be denser towards the bottom to mimic the formation of moister-laden clouds while focusing light on the entrance and cafe. To be built from recycled acrylic with embedded LEDs, the work will utilize custom software for running generative light patterns based on a camera feed mounted on the building’s east-facing exterior, interpreting the color data of the legendary sunrises at Signify HQ in Burlington Massachusetts. The intention is to utilize the infinite color-mixing capabilities of LEDs to explore tones, hues, and combinations often overlooked in architectural lighting design.
